Maine inshore fishing report by Teazer Charters

Inshore Fishing Report
June 20, 2024
Jonah Paris

Similar to years past, the 2024 season aboard the TEAZER kicked off with a string of inshore trips. Mackerel have been spotty in the bay recently, and loading the tank has become a chore. Expect to pick away at them - one here, one there. Rumor has it that an army of hungry porpoises might be to blame. Bring chum and start at the usual haunts: West Cod Ledge, Jordan Reef, Portland Head Light, and along the outer islands. Invest your time in catching fresh bait. Good bait can make or break a fishing trip, and especially on charters, every shot counts. There are still plenty of pogies schooling inside the bay. However, it seems like seals rather than cow bass are busting up the pods.

Striped bass have been hitting both chunks and live mackerel along the ledges and inner islands. We have been catching healthy fish on either side of the slot. Fish the chunks weightless if conditions allow. Minimizing hardware is key to fooling summer bass under full sun.

Plugging the surf after hours has been off to a slow start for me, but I have been scraping up a few stripers here and there. Over the years, Mag Darters, SP Minnows, and Bombers have become my nighttime favorites.

Tight Lines,
