Rita B Fishing Report 07/26/23
Offshore Fishing report: If you can avoid the dogfish, the fishing has been excellent. Great showings of larger than average whiting (up to 5 lbs!) and lots of pollock have been filling the coolers of the sports aboard the Rita B. Not as many haddock as we'd like to see but folks are still going home with the same amount of fish as years past, if not more. Whiting is an excellent eating fish, and most people couldn't tell the difference between it and haddock in a blind taste test. Mackerel fishing has been inconsistent, where you caught them in the morning they may be absent in the afternoon. However, we've caught enough to bend the rods on the kids' trips and for bait on the live lining striper trips. The Stripers have cooperated with many slot fish and some over slots willing to bite. Live mackerel has been the ticket, as I haven't been having much luck on chucks. Also, Capt. Pete with Teazer Charters caught a bluefish inside Casco Bay in late June. It's saltwater fishing, every day, and every tide is different and anything is possible.
